With 1,459 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns last season, McCaffrey topped the NFL. Along with ranking second among players at the position, he caught 67 passes for 564 yards, leading all NFL running backs with seven receiving touchdowns.

With 21 total points, he was tied for the league lead. McCaffrey also tied an NFL record by scoring a touchdown in 17 straight games.

McCaffrey was named the 2023 NFL Offensive Player of the Year as a result of his efforts.

“In the official release from EA Sports, Madden NFL senior production director Mike Mahar stated, ‘Christian McCaffrey is a human highlight reel on NFL Sundays and our players love his dynamic abilities in ‘Madden,’ scoring more than 450 million touchdowns with him last year and making him the most popular running back in ‘Madden NFL 24.'”

“Christian’s electrifying, dynamic and physical play style perfectly represents the gameplay innovations we’re bringing to Madden NFL 25 and made him the perfect fit for this year’s cover,” Mahar said.

In six years (or two, if you include John Madden’s appearance on the cover of Madden 23), McCaffrey is the first player who isn’t a quarterback to be featured on the Madden cover. Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, was highlighted last year. Eleven years ago, Adrian Peterson and Barry Sanders shared the title of running back of the year.

Additionally, McCaffrey is the first 49ers player to appear in the global version of the game. In 1999, Garrison Hearst appeared on the cover of the worldwide version.

“To be on the cover of Madden NFL is a career achievement and an honor I share with all of my teammates, coaches and 49er faithful who have helped make it possible,” McCaffrey stated in the announcement. “I’m pumped to get back on the field this year to give Madden players more reasons to keep scoring touchdowns with me in ‘Madden NFL 25.'”

Along with quarterback Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions, tight end Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, quarterback Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, and receiver Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings, McCaffrey was one of the athletes that fans had projected may be on the Madden 25 cover.

On August 16, Madden NFL 25 will be available for PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
