The remarks made by CeeDee Lamb appear to be misinterpreted or distorted by the Cowboys into a different meaning than intended.

A recent report indicated that Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb might skip the voluntary part of the offseason program and potentially even the mandatory minicamp. Following this, a video surfaced on TMZ.com featuring Lamb responding to vague questions about his future. Notably, he wasn’t specifically asked about his attendance at voluntary workouts or the minicamp; rather, he was asked if he’d be in Dallas. Merely stating “I’ll be in Dallas” doesn’t necessarily imply he won’t hold out.

However, the Cowboys interpret Lamb’s statement differently. They use it as evidence that he won’t hold out for the new contract he deserves. According to them, Lamb appears unconcerned about his ongoing contract negotiations and doesn’t seem worried about his future with the team, as portrayed in the mentioned article.

It’s important to differentiate between whether Lamb will be in Dallas this season and whether he’ll participate in the offseason program. Despite this distinction, both the Cowboys and the NFL’s official website, which also covered Lamb’s comments, do not perceive it that way.

Certainly, the Cowboys are likely aware of the situation. Whether their intention is to downplay their failure to present an acceptable offer so far or to set up Lamb for criticism if he decides to stay away, it’s clear that Lamb hasn’t committed to attending offseason workouts.

Lamb has undoubtedly earned a long-term contract, having played for four seasons already. Despite this, the Cowboys, who often delay paying their star players despite the cost increasing over time, have yet to make Lamb an offer that satisfies him.

The negotiation challenge lies in finding a figure agreeable to both parties. While the Cowboys have leverage with Lamb under contract for 2024 and the franchise tag available for 2025, Lamb’s leverage lies in denying his services, which he can and arguably should do. Therefore, no one should interpret his comments to TMZ.com as confirmation that he won’t do so.
